Back pain

Back pain is by far the most common issue I see in clinic. For some, back pain will last for a short period of time while for others it becomes chronic and can affect them on a daily basis. Something I want to get across to people is that back pain can be treated. The correct treatment plan and some simple lifestyle or workplace changes can eradicate back pain, so don’t suffer needlessly!
People who sit for long periods of time in work are just as likely to get back pain as someone who is required to do manual labour or heavy lifting. The lower back (lumbar spine) is the area most commonly affected. As the L-spine allows a full range of movement it is prone to a lot of “wear and tear” and conditions such as spondylosis. It is also the area in your back where you are most likely to damage a disc. Muscle spasm, facet locks, spinal misalignment and pelvic issues may also contribute to lower back pain.
The most important piece of advice I can offer is if you develop back pain then get treatment as soon as possible. The sooner it is treated the easier it is to correct and ignoring it will simply cause long term issues. Take care of your back, as it’s only when you suffer a back injury than you realise just how debilitating it can be.
